Students in grades 5-12, who play orchestral or band instruments, are eligible to audition for developmentally appropriate orchestras, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble. Current members must also audition each year. Please note that in order to audition for Jazz Ensemble, the musicians are required to play in one of the other GBYO ensembles. Students in grade 4 may audition with the Music Director’s approval. Email email@example.com to inquire.
GBYO expects its members – string, woodwind, brass, and percussion – to remain in good standing as participants in their respective school music programs, where they exist. Private lessons alone are NOT a substitute for participation in school music programs.
All instruments welcome! For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Audition registration is required! Audition fee is $25.

Financial Aid policy:
No child will be turned away for inability to pay. Financial aid awards are based on the income levels associated with the National School Lunch Program. Applications are due on the first day of rehearsals on September 8, 2018. Please click here for a financial assistance application form: 2018-19 Financial Aid Application Form. You must include a copy of your most recent tax return with your financial aid application. If you do not have a tax return, you must fill out and return the 4506T Request for Individual Tax Return Transcript with your application instead. All forms must be submitted by the first day of rehearsals with a $25 financial aid application fee per child, which will be credited to your account. Applying for financial aid does not guarantee that you will receive it. We regret that we can offer financial assistance only for basic membership, snack & retreat fees, not private lesson costs.
INSTRUMENTS FOR LOAN:
GBYO has a limited number of instruments which could be loaned to GBYO musicians. Some of the instruments require minor repairs. Please email Beth at email@example.com if you need a new or different instrument. Available instruments include violin, cello, string bass, tuba, flute, or clarinet.
KUBTEC BOB & DOROTHY GENUALDI SCHOLARSHIP:
We are pleased to announce a new scholarship for eligible GBYO students.
A scholarship in memory of Bob & Dorothy Genualdi, who gave so much to GBYO and the local music community, will be provided through the generosity of KUBTEC, a local company based in Stratford, CT.
The KUBTEC Bob & Dorothy Genualdi Scholarship will be awarded to students who meet criteria based upon merit and financial need. Even if you do not qualify for a GBYO financial aid award, you may qualify for a Genualdi Scholarship.
If you wish to be considered for a Genualdi Scholarship, please submit the Genualdi application in addition to a financial aid application by Sept. 22, 2018. Applicants will be notified of scholarship decisions in October at which time membership accounts may be adjusted. Preference will be given to students new to GBYO.
